You Can't Live With Them... (Mid-Season Finale)
Updated: Jul 22, 2020
INT. LEON AND HIRO'S APARTMENT. NIGHT.
Leon and Hiro on the couch watching TV, relaxing with beers.
Doorbell RINGS. Hiro uses x-ray vision to look through the
door.
HIRO
Pizza's here!
Hiro goes to the door, opens it and takes the pizza.
LEON
How'd you know that?
HIRO
Were you expecting someone else?
LEON
Fair point.
Hiro takes the pizza into the kitchen. Leon gets out a black
device, similar to a cell phone, that beeps ominously as he
presses it. He keeps casting guilty glances at the kitchen
to make sure Hiro doesn't see.
HIRO
(O.S)
Do you want another beer?
LEON
(distracted by the
device)
Mm?
HIRO
(returning to the lounge)
I asked if you wanted another beer.
What are you doing?
LEON
Hmm... Oh, nothing. Yeah sure, I'll
have another beer, mate. Thanks.
Hiro, checking Leon is still distracted, speeds back to the
kitchen to get the beer.
HIRO
Here you go.
Leon, startled, guiltily puts the device in his pocket.
HIRO
(nodding towards Leon's
pocket)
Work?
LEON
Thank you. Yeah, but it's done now.
Cheers.
They clink bottles.
HIRO
To a quiet night in.
LEON
Finally.
HIRO
Yeah, you have been working a lot
recently. Bosses riding you pretty
hard?
LEON
More like the competition...
TV BROADCASTER
We interrupt this programme with
breaking news. A bomb has just been
discovered downtown in Decathon
Plaza. Nearby areas are being
evacuated but all residents of the
city are advised to remain indoors
until further notice. Authorities
are on the scene and we will keep
you all up to date as things
progress.
Leon settles back, unfazed, sipping his beer. Hiro sits
forwards, unsettled. His phone chirps. He reads the message
and stands up.
HIRO
I gotta go.
LEON
(worried)
What? You just heard what they said
- "stay indoors".
HIRO
... Didi wants me.
LEON
I thought she was on vacation?
HIRO
Right... She got back early.
LEON
But doesn't she live right near
Decathon?
HIRO
Er, yeah... She doesn't want to
evacuate though...
LEON
If your girlfriend is too dumb to
evacuate, you don't have to die
with her... Survival of the
fittest, mate.
HIRO
No, I really should go.
LEON
Tell her to come here, if she's
scared. I'll text her.
HIRO
(too quickly)
No!... No, I'll.. Go fetch her.
LEON
What? No, that's not what I meant.
You need to stay inside! There's a
BOMB.
HIRO
I need to go... Help.
LEON
Help... Didi?
HIRO
Yeah, yeah, that's what I meant.
TV BROADCASTER
We will now go to our drone live on
the scene. The bomb squad are
working tirelessly to diffuse this
device.
The TV shows the bomb counting down from 8 minutes.
LEON
You'd never get to her in time
anyway. If she doesn't want to
evacuate, that's on her.
HIRO
I at least have to try.
LEON
No, mate, you don't!
Leon grabs Hiro and drags him to Leon's room. Leon gets the
pair of handcuffs from the bedside table and cuffs Hiro to
the bed.
HIRO
Do I even want to know why you have
these?
LEON
Look, this is for your own good.
Normal people don't run towards
bombs... Leave it to that damned
Super to deal with.
HIRO
Don't start this again. The Supers
are good people...
LEON
(sarcastically)
Yeah, right...
They sit in uncomfortable silence.
HIRO
Can you at least bring the pizza if
we're gonna be sitting here all
night?
LEON
Yeah... Alright.
Leon goes to get the pizza. Hiro snaps the handcuffs, speeds
to the window and leaps out. Leon returns just as he flies
away.
LEON
... Shit.
Leon hurries back to the lounge, fumbling with the device.
He rapidly pushes the display as the bomb shows 3 minutes on
the TV. He pushes a final button with a resounding beep and
the timer fades to black. Leon leans back on the couch with
a sigh.
THE END
